Venice’s home crowd got the statement win it wanted Friday night as the Indians defeated rival Riverview (Sarasota) 46–23 at Powell-Davis Stadium. Balanced offense, timely stops, and special teams lifted the Indians in the rivalry win.
The environment felt like a playoff preview—quick possessions, heavy situational football, and a home side that kept the pedal down even as the lead grew. Images from the field told the story as well, including contested catches and sequence-changing plays that tilted the night toward the Indians.
The result capped a performance in which Venice’s offense and special teams gave the defense room to work—then the defense returned the favor with stops that kept the Rams at arm’s length.
From the opening series, Venice played as if intent on changing the tenor of its season. After a September stretch that included tight games and a couple of setbacks, the Indians found rhythm on both sides of the ball. By night’s end, the scoreboard reflected that balance in the 46-23 score.
The victory continues a sustained run of success for Venice in the rivalry, marking the ninth straight win over Riverview. Beyond the streak, the performance served as an important checkpoint for where Venice stands right now, with the Indians moving to 4–3 overall.
Riverview arrived unbeaten and left with its first loss, dropping to 6-1-1. Venice, meanwhile, walked off with renewed momentum and the kind of performance that travels into the back half of October.
Next up, Venice remains at home to face Clearwater Central Catholic before closing the regular season with a short trip to Sarasota—two games that, after a night like this, look less like hurdles and more like opportunities. |
