Stars on the stage, stars in the sky.. SCF Delivers an Evening to Remember

There are events that check a box… and then there are nights that remind a community who it is.

Last night’s “Night Under the Stars” fundraiser hosted by the State College of Florida Foundation felt like the latter. Set beneath a clear Florida sky at State College of Florida’s Venice campus, the evening brought together supporters, educators, business leaders, and families—not just to attend an event, but to be part of something that carries real impact long after the lights go out.

As the night unfolded, feature Scholarship recipients told their stories of how the generosity of the Foundation provided an opportunity to continue their higher education journey when life's adversity would have never permitted it. 

After enjoying the delicious servings from Fins at Sharky's, the audience was ready to move....that's when the energy completely shifted.  And move they did!

Because the entertainment for the evening was the nationally touring LJ's Essence of Motown who took the crowd through the the wonder years of Motown, hit by hit.  Moving through a wide-ranging set of Motown classics, the band delivered one hit after another, channeling the sound and spirit of legendary artists in a way that felt both nostalgic and alive. It didn’t take long before the audience responded—not from their seats, but on their feet. Because it didn't take long for the tables to empty, and the dance floor to fill. 

Conversations turned into movement. And before long, guests—and even those watching from the sidelines—found themselves, quite literally, “dancin’ in the streets.” 

It was the kind of moment you can’t manufacture. It just happens.

But it was what happened above the crowd that truly left people talking

As the evening reached its peak, a choreographed drone light show lit up the sky—precise, synchronized, and unlike anything many in attendance had seen before. Patterns formed, shapes shifted, and for several minutes, the sky itself became part of the experience.

It wasn’t just impressive. It was something else entirely. Storytelling written in light… and moving in rhythm to the beat of “Fantasy” by Earth, Wind & Fire. The kind of moment that had people forgetting about fireworks, looking at each other and quietly asking the same question:

"Where the heck is is my callphone, I need to get a picture of this"!

No smoke. No noise. Just technology, precision, and imagination brought to life above the crowd. And somehow, it fit perfectly with the tone of the night—a forward-looking event centered around opportunity, innovation, and what comes next. Because that’s really what the evening was about.

Not just raising money. But investing in the future.

Throughout the night, the message remained clear: education changes lives, but access to education changes communities. The funds raised go directly toward student scholarships and financial aid programs, helping create real opportunities for students across the region.

Yes, there was music. Yes, there was dinner. Yes, there was energy that carried through every part of the evening. But what stayed with people wasn’t just the entertainment. It was the purpose behind it.

And maybe, just maybe, a glimpse of the future—

both in the sky above and in the lives being shaped below.
