Under the lights of their new home stadium, the Venice Indians made a loud postseason statement Friday night, cruising to a dominant 49–12 win over the Ridge Community Bolts in the opening round of the state playoffs. A packed home crowd watched Venice control the game from the opening drive, combining big-play offense with stingy defense to extend their winning streak and move on in the bracket.
Quarterback Darryon Jones wasted no time getting Venice on the board. On the Indians’ first possession, he capped the drive with a crisp 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Colton Lynch , sending the home stands into an early roar.
After Ridge Community answered with a score of their own, Venice went right back to work. Jones connected on a deep ball down the sideline to playmaking wide receiver Tyree Mannings , flipping field position and setting up another red-zone opportunity. A few snaps later, running back Dorian “Macho” Jones ripped off a long run through the middle of the defense, and Darryon Jones finished the drive by keeping it himself for an 8-yard rushing touchdown.
From there, the Indians’ offense found its rhythm. Behind steady protection up front and a balanced mix of quick throws and power runs, Venice piled on points in the second and third quarters, building a lead that Ridge Community never seriously threatened.
Kicker James Reynolds was automatic on extra points, helping Venice turn touchdowns into a scoreboard that reflected their dominance.
While the offense lit up the scoreboard, the Venice defense quietly put together a statement performance of its own. After allowing an early touchdown, the Indians clamped down, holding Ridge Community scoreless through the second and third quarters and forcing a string of short drives and punts. The front seven consistently collapsed the pocket and controlled the line of scrimmage, disrupting the Bolts’ timing and taking away their ability to establish a rhythm on the ground.
On the back end, the secondary broke up passes and rallied to the football, limiting yards after the catch and preventing big plays downfield. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Venice’s physical play on defense had firmly taken its toll. Ridge Community’s final score came long after the outcome was decided, as the Indians rotated fresh bodies and protected their lead.
With the 49–12 victory, Venice improves to 7–3 and advances deeper into the playoff bracket. The win also extends the Indians’ late-season surge and sets up a high-stakes home matchup next week against West Orange, (Winter Garden, FL, 8-1) another program with deep postseason ambitions. But if Friday night is any indication, Venice has found the right blend of explosive offense, opportunistic defense, and disciplined energy at just the right time. As the stakes rise, the Indians look very much like a team no one wants to see on the opposite sideline.
Friday night at Venice was everything high school football is supposed to be: a packed stadium, playoff energy, and a home team that rose to the moment. With leaders like Darryon Jones , Colton Lynch , Tyree Mannings and Dorian “Macho” Jones driving the attack, and a defense that grows tougher as the game wears on, the Indian sare "hopefully" poised to make this postseason run one to remember.
