The Venice High Indians delivered one of the most dominant playoff performances in recent program history Friday night at Powell-Davis Stadium , erupting for a stunning 42-point second half to defeat the West Orange Warriors 70–35. The win sends Venice into the Region 2 Final and reestablishes the Indians as a dangerous late-season contender.
Entering the game, Venice was finally close to full strength for the first time all year, and it showed. After trading touchdowns in a thrilling 28–28 first half, the Indians came out of the locker room looking like a different team — faster, sharper, and far more physical.
A momentum-shifting turnover early in the third quarter set the tone. A few plays later, senior running back Darryon Jones — a Howard University commit — punched in a go-ahead touchdown, swinging the lead back to Venice at 35–28. Moments later, Venice’s defense forced yet another fumble, and this time junior speedster Dorien Jones capitalized with a 25-yard touchdown burst, stretching the Indians’ advantage to 42–28.
West Orange sophomore quarterback Andrew Chung continued his standout season — tossing three touchdown passes and adding to his impressive 40-TD year — but Venice’s secondary made him pay with five interceptions, each one killing potential momentum.
The Indians’ offensive line dominated the trenches all night, opening lanes and giving their backs downhill opportunities on nearly every possession. With the defense forcing turnovers and Venice’s playmakers firing at full speed, the floodgates opened — and West Orange had no answers.
With a full lineup and the momentum of a 70-point eruption, Venice looks like the championship-caliber program Florida football fans know well. The win sets up a Black Friday regional championship showdown at home against Sumner High School , who advanced after a 31–21 win over Sarasota Riverview . Once again, playoff football returns to Venice — under the lights, with the crowd loud, and with a team that looks ready to make a deep run.
The message is clear.... the Indians are healthy, explosive, and very much back.
