Venice used a blistering start and steady pressure to overwhelm Lehigh, cruising to a 51–0 home victory Friday at Powell-Davis Stadium. The Indians controlled field position early, flipped short fields into points, and never let the Lightning get comfortable, securing a running-clock finish and another clean district result.
The tone was set at the line of scrimmage. Venice’s front pushed the pace on both sides, opening rushing lanes on offense while the defense compressed edges and closed space in the flats. Special teams added hidden yards—solid returns and directional punting—tilting the field as the margin ballooned before halftime.
With the outcome in hand early, Venice rotated personnel liberally after the break and leaned on the ground game to shorten possessions and protect a shutout that held to the final horn.
Beyond the scoreboard, the win reads like a template for the season’s stretch run: start fast, finish drives, and stack stops. Venice’s ability to pair explosive plays with disciplined situational defense—particularly on third down and in the red zone—was the difference against Lehigh and will be the focus with marquee matchups ahead.
The Indians next turn to a high-profile home date on Oct. 3 against the IMG Academy (National team). Should be a tough one, but we're on a bit of a roll! |
