Driver's error leads to vehicle entering water; no injuries reported |
On Wednesday afternoon, a routine boat retrieval at the Marina Park Boat Ramp in Venice, Florida, took an unexpected turn when a pickup truck ended up submerged in the water.
Shortly after 3 p.m., the driver was backing a trailer into the water to load a flats boat. In a moment of confusion, the truck was mistakenly shifted into reverse, causing it to roll off the ramp and into the water.
Emergency response teams from the Venice Police Department and Venice Fire Rescue arrived promptly at the scene. Collaborating with Sea Tow Venice and Venice Wrecker, they efficiently coordinated the retrieval of the submerged vehicle.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The boat involved was also safely recovered without any damage. Following the successful recovery and a thorough safety inspection, city officials confirmed that the Marina Park Boat Ramp has been fully reopened to the public.
Boaters and recreational users are once again free to use the ramp. However, officials are reminding drivers to exercise extra caution when backing trailers into the water, especially near tides and steep grades.
