What $prouts mean$ for Venice!

Cultivating employment opportunities!

Sprouts Farmers Market’s upcoming Venice store is set to hire roughly 90–93 people, a mix of full- and part-time roles across produce, grocery, bakery, meat & seafood, vitamins, front-end, and store leadership.

Ahead of opening day, Sprouts is hosting in-person hiring events at the Venice Community Center (326 S. Nokomis Ave.) on Monday, Sept. 30 (8 a.m.–6 p.m.) and Tuesday, Oct. 1 (8 a.m.–5 p.m.); note that no interviews will be conducted from 12–1 p.m. either day. The company typically fills positions ranging from entry-level team members and courtesy clerks to department managers and assistant store leaders, with on-the-job training emphasized for most roles.

Sprouts’ store launches around the country follow a similar pattern: pre-opening hiring pushes in the 90-plus jobs range, then additional recruits after opening as traffic patterns settle. In recent openings, the company has advertised comparable headcounts, signaling a consistent staffing model for its newer, smaller-format stores. For Venice, that means a sizable wave of new retail employment in a single shot, with the added benefit of laddered roles that can move from hourly to supervisory.

On pay, public job-market data puts front-end hourly rates for national Sprouts roles in the mid- to high-teens per hour, varying by market conditions and position. Wages tend to step up for experienced department specialists and shift leads, and Sprouts augments compensation with store discounts and benefits eligibility for many roles. While the exact Venice pay bands will be set locally, the national ranges provide a practical guide to what applicants can expect.

What a new Sprouts typically does for a local economy

Although every market is different, new grocery anchors like Sprouts commonly deliver three near-term effects: (1) direct jobs at the store, (2) spillover foot traffic that lifts nearby retailers and services, and (3) incremental sales and property-tax contributions as the site activates.

Retail and economic-development literature consistently describes grocery anchors as neighborhood catalysts: they create stable daily trips, encourage co-tenancy, and can help reposition underused centers. Some municipal updates that welcomed Sprouts have framed the impact in exactly those terms—jobs, foot traffic, and renewed investment in surrounding corridors.

Zooming out, industry studies on grocery and healthy-food retail point to multiplier effects: each direct grocery job supports additional employment across suppliers, logistics, maintenance, marketing, and local services. The exact multipliers vary by city and modeling approach, but the direction is consistent—a staffed grocery store tends to support more work beyond its four walls.

For Venice, add to that dynamic the store’s focus on fresh-food draw and frequent-shopper cadence, and the  Sprout's arrival should bode well for Venice consumers and job seekers.
