A perfect football night...Under the lights in Venice, s crisp October night, a packed home side, and four quarters that swung on field position, patience, and one late takeaway. The result....Venice outlasted the Marauders 35–21.
The soundtrack at Powell–Davis Stadium felt familiar: brass cutting through the night, drum line snapping in time, and a home crowd that has learned to rise with every big moment. By the time it ended, the Venice High School Indians had banked a 35–21 win over the visiting Clearwater Central Catholic High School Marauders—an honest, hard-earned victory that never turned into a runaway, but never slipped from Venice’s grasp either.
Venice’s opening possessions told you what kind of night it would be. The Indians’ football program leaned on rhythm and patience—take what the defense gives, set the edge, trust the next play. Clearwater Central Catholic’s adjustments made Venice work for every yard, yet the Venice varsity kept stacking first downs, and the chains kept moving.
The middle quarters traded answers. The Marauders varsity found space on the perimeter and briefly tilted momentum, only for Venice to answer with a measured, multi-snap drive that restored a two-possession cushion.
Special teams mattered—short fields did, too—and the game kept returning to a simple truth: the group that finished red-zone chances would walk off with the result.
The signature moment arrived late, when Venice’s defense read the route, broke on the throw, and came down with an interception that sent the home sideline into a full sprint toward the end zone corner. One more clock-eating drive, one more score, and the night belonged to the Indians, 35–21.
For Venice, it was the kind of performance that travels—balanced enough to win on a short field, disciplined enough to survive momentum swings. For Clearwater Central Catholic, it was proof of how narrow the margins are against a seasoned opponent on the road, and a reminder that the right adjustment in October can still pay off in November.
It truly was the kind of night that reminds you jsut how enjoyable Friday Football night can be in Venice! |
