Featuring digestive health center offerings and specialized gastrointestinal procedures

🔥 Trending

A new outpatient endoscopy and digestive health center is coming to Venice — just steps from  Sarasota Memorial Hospital–Venice — and it’s designed to keep up with the area’s rapid growth.

The $12 million facility is expected to open in late 2027 and will be located at: 📍 2695 Curry Lane, Venice, FL (View on Google Maps)

The center will occupy part of a new three-story, 54,000-square-foot medical office building currently in development.

Why the expansion? Demand.

Since SMH-Venice opened in 2021, the number of gastrointestinal procedures performed there has nearly quadrupled.

  • FY2022: Just over 1,000 procedures
  • FY2025: 3,762 gastrointestinal procedures

That’s significant growth in just a few years. Right now, all endoscopies are performed inside the hospital. The new outpatient center will allow routine procedures — like colonoscopies and other screenings — to take place outside the main hospital building.

That frees up hospital space for more complex and acute cases.

According to SMH-Venice President Sharon Roush, the need for screenings continues to rise each year.

By shifting routine procedures to the outpatient center, patients can expect:

  • Shorter wait times
  • Faster turnaround from screening to diagnosis
  • Expanded overall capacity

The new center will include:

  • 24 exam rooms
  • 4 procedural suites
  • Dedicated pre- and post-procedure areas
  • Advanced endoscopic testing and treatment technology

The facility will treat conditions involving the stomach, esophagus, colon, intestines, liver, pancreas and biliary system.

The outpatient location will remain a department of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System and will become the new home for SMH First Physicians Group gastroenterology team.

The medical office building is being developed by Flagship Healthcare Properties , which purchased the 5-acre site earlier this year, according to Sarasota County Property Appraiser records .

Construction is expected to wrap up in the second quarter of 2027.

As Venice and surrounding communities continue to grow, healthcare infrastructure is expanding right alongside it. This project is another clear sign that South County’s medical footprint is getting larger — and more specialized — each year.
